So I just saw the new James Cameron film, Avatar. I won't throw a spoiler at you but I will say that I left the theatre thinking that the movie was extremely entertaining, full of detail and perfect in a lot of ways.
The movie combines futuristic "human"scenes with computer animated ones. It's like watching the Roger Rabbit movie of the 21st century. The graphics were amazing on so many levels that it literally had be guessing at what was real, and what wasn't. The only negative I can think of is that some of the scenes appeared more real than others. However this is me trying to be picky as overall the graphics were probably the best I have ever seen. Since I had to force myself to come up with a negative I don't see it fair to include it in my final rating.
The story was very entertaining, perhaps not unpredictable but full of life none the less. I would say it was a cross between Surrogates, The Last Samurai and Planet Earth.
The acting was perfection even though a good portion of the support roles were new faces to me. Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Clash of the Titans) proved himself worthy as the lead and Sigourney Weaver (Alien movies) looked at home with her role.
I'm always interested to see a James Cameron movie. I've read a lot of crap on the Internet that says this is his first decent movie since The Titanic... I would like to interject and say it's his first decent movie since True Lies. Nice work James!
If you haven't seen Avatar yet I would make about 2 hours and 40 minutes in your schedule and see it now. Avatar is a visual masterpiece that deserves to be seen in the theatre.
In one word, Avatar was: Flawless.
