Real Action Movies?
You heard me! Where are the real mindless action powerhouse movies that I grew up on? They're pretty much gone! They've been taken away by strict parental groups and equal rights activists. I want to see some hardcore blood shedding with lots of guns and ridiculous body counts! I want few versus a million and I want the odds stacked against... and I want it now! I can remember classic action movies staring Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Lundgren, Willis, Van Damme and Segal that made todays action movies look like romantic comedies. Movies like Die Hard, Commando, Bloodsport, The Punisher (the original), Predator, Hard to Kill, the Terminator, Rambo, Universal Soldier. The list could go on and on and could even end with Kurt Russell in Soldier. I'd have to say that I can't think of a solid action movie with a good plot recipe since about the year 1998. It's a sad world we live in where Hollywood can spend tens of millions of dollars and not come out with a good action movie. You need at least one muscle bound good guy with nothing to loose to put up against an army of pitiful henchmen and a creditable leader. Audiences like me want to believe that the good guy is a bad ass and then be proven right as they kill a thousand guys "in the blink of an eye" to reach the goal. The real problem with the action movie scene is that the actors listed above just aren't appearing in high budget movies any more... right? Wrong! Stallone agreed with me and took things into his own hands. His upcoming action flick "the Expendables" hits the theatres on August 13th 2010. the Expendables is a collaboration of the old and the new action stars including Stallone, Statham, Jet Li, Lundgren, Randy Coutour, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke and cameos from Schwarzenegger and Willis. I'm not even going to get into the story line as all you need to know is that it looks like it's going to be an over the top, red meat eating, testosterone filled macho slaughterfest. I know you're just as pumped as me so go ahead and watch the trailer. Shed a happy tear for me IaN
