Fast Five Review

You know how when you get out of a movie and you immediately ask your friend/wife/escort if they liked the movie? Well I didn't even need to ask my wife, I knew she was going to say yes! Fast Five was a great thrill ride that didn't stop with cars just tearing up the streets. Fast Five had a great story and some awesome combat sequences. By combat I mean guns and straight brawling. I'm not sure who the fight coordinator was for this movie but they need to use him in more movies, and in any sequels to Fast Five.

The cast in Fast Five is perfect. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian 'O Connor (Paul Walker), Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Ludacris), Vince and Han Lue did a great job with both their acting as well as having good comradery. The big, and I mean big, newcomer is agent Luke Hobbs played by Dwayne Johnson. When I first heard that Dwayne was going to play a big role in this movie I wasn't sure what to think. I have always had a lot of respect for Dwayne as an actor as he did a great job in Faster, and an even better job in Walking Tall. I'll tell you though, he was the perfect choice for the role and this movie. He did some amazing hand to hand combat scenes and being up against Vin, it was a blast to watch. I hate it when you see a movie and the the nerdy action star grabs a guy and breaks his neck like he's done it 1000 times. Neck snapping should be left to guys like Stallone, Van Damme, Schwarzenegger, Vin Diesel and now, Dwayne Johnson!

Fast Five showed a great balance of vintage muscle cars and newer muscle cars. Also the balance between muscle cars and imports was quite good. As you may know, I love my vintage muscle cars and I'm always happy to see a new movie in this series just to get a glimpse of the sweet rides. Actually there wasn't as many races and car scenes as there was in some of the other movies but they did a great job of keeping the pace of the movie up. The movie was 2 hours and 10 minutes long but it only felt like 1 hour 40 minutes. I was surprised to walk out of the theater and see that it was over two hours. That doesn't happen very often and I was impressed to see it on a movie from this series.

I guess the only downside to this movie was that some of the scenes were over the top. Over the top might be a nice way of saying it as parts were just impossible. However I don't care because the rest of the movie was so good that you couldn't help but be entertained by the rest. If you're the type of person that gets angry and says "That could never happen, this is bullsh*t" and walks out of the theater, maybe you should rent this one. Other than that, this movie could be the best I've seen this year. I almost hope a friend wants to go see it so I can have an excuse to go again!

Oh and don't forget to stick around after the credits for the extra scene. It's a big twist but I'm not going to spoil it for you.

In one word, Fast Five was: Wicked.
